XOBXOB Connector Application

Postby coopermaa » Wed Aug 14, 2013 6:36 am

Hi,

In the XOBXOB Connector Application sketch:

if ((currentPort > 0) && !paused){

The application might not work if the first serial port is selected (currentPort = 0).
Maybe need to change to:

if ((currentPort >= 0) && !paused){

Good catch! You had to dig pretty deep to find that. :-)
So, I've just pushed the update to Github and xobxob.com.
Thanks for pointing it out...

It seems that if you have more than 10 COM ports available, you're not able to chose one with two digit number on the list. In my case, it was COM36 (arduino) and it was on the list as "[10] COM36".
Is there any workaround for this or maybe it requires change in the code?

Yes. This is a good point. Thanks for pointing it out.
We were hoping it would not affect most people.
A quick workaround might be to disconnect one other USB device to lower the count of your Arduino below 10.

Addressing the larger question, maybe we could update the connector application to use letters rather than numbers. That would provide 26 ports (hopefully enough for most situations :)

The problem is my arduino is the only one connected to the PC so I don't know how Windows 7 manages current/past USB connections and open ports.
Anyway, I've manually uninstalled some COM ports which are not used normally ( or I hope they are not ;) ) and it seems working.
BTW - maybe since it's a PApplet you could use a drop-down list instead of "key pressed" events.

By the way, a new version of the connector app has been released that uses letters rather than numbers to select ports. That should help. :)
